Float like a Butterfly, Sting like a Bee

I watched dad race for the 1st time this morning.  He ran a 1 mile race from Porter to Harvard Square known as the Mass Ave Mile.  This is both the inaugural year of the race as well as the first time dad took on a 1 mile race since he was 18 years old in the spring of 1999 (Senior year in high school).

His original goal was sub 5:20, but after whining about lack of sleep said he would be happy with sub 5:30.  Mom and I dropped him off at the Tavern on the Square around 8:15 and then headed to the finish line.

At 9:05 exactly, he came blazing down street and hit the finish line in 5:16.  He told me after the race that is only 3 seconds slower then his high school PR on the track.  Good to see that age isn't effecting his speed too much.

Splits at each 1/4 mile: 70, 85, 85, 76

We haven't decided what he should race next.  But I am in impressed that he has run a 32 mile hilly trail run and still has enough speed for a 1 mile throw down.
